Netflix seems to have another hit on its hands! Fans will be excited to learn that their summer series Sweet Tooth has been renewed, and will be back for more adventures in season 2. The announcement comes from the streaming service's Netflix Twitter page, in a very sweet video from the cast.

The series is dystopian, based on a graphic novel by Jeff Lemire. It's set in a world where they've suffered a deadly virus called The Great Crumble. Post-virus, hybrid babies are being born which are half-human and half-animal. Because it's unknown whether these babies caused the virus, or are a product of it, they are discriminated against and experimented on. Lead character Gus is part human and part deer, and sets out with a lone traveler to find his mother in Colorado.

While the graphic novel series was already popular, this show got real news attention when the public found out who was involved. Many of course are part of the show, but with Iron Man himself attached it's hard to believe this would have been a fail. Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, Susan Downey, serve as executive producers.

The series stars Christian Convery, Nonso Anozie, Naledi Murray, Adeel Akhtar, Aliza Vellani, Stefania LaVie, Dania Ramirez, Neil Sandilands, as well as Will Forte. James Brolin serves as the series narrator. The cast seemed to be hoping for a season two well before it was confirmed, and some outlined in an interview with Collider what their hopes for the series would be. Overall it seems that they hope to see justice for the half-breeds and a takedown of the show's current villain, but of course, the bliss of defeating an enemy can't last. Surely, fans of the graphic novel will have a bit of an idea what to expect, but it could still be a big surprise.

The series is highly fantasy-based with a lot of whimsical moments and few elements of social metaphors. While it doesn't go as hard on the sociopolitical stuff as many other dystopians do, it is certainly relevant. So much of the series is focused on a deadly virus that caused not only sickness, but a lot of divisiveness and distrust between basically everyone in the world. Surely, this is something most people can relate to right now.

While Sweet Tooth may not have been the complete runaway hit other Netflix Originals have been, it has been watched by 60 million households since premiering on June 4, 2021. Clearly, they believe in it enough to give the audience more, though no release date has been announced.

Sweet Tooth season one is available to stream on Netflix.
