Nintendo had a surprise mini direct today, and it came with a few exciting announcements. Surviving the Aftermath was one of the more intriguing games that were revealed during the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase.

Surviving the Aftermath will be releasing in Spring of 2021 from Paradox Interactive. For this game, "the end of the world is just the beginning," as players survive in a post-apocalyptic future while building a colony that can thrive during these dark times. The game is currently playable on early access on the PC, as well as the Xbox Games Preview program.

The video that ran during the direct, which is now on YouTube, shows off cinematic art of what Surviving the Aftermath has to offer. But a few gameplay shots are snuck in as well, emphasizing the gameplay of building up a colony, gathering scarce resources, meeting up with other colonies, and fighting off bandits.

According to the details in the video's description, players will be able to explore a world with six different biomes in resource gathering and colony building, as the world, bandits, animals, and even natural disasters can strike at any time. Additionally, players must manage reputation, recruit unique specialists, and make difficult moral decisions.

Surviving the Aftermath was certainly not the only game announced during the surprise mini-direct. Big updates arrived for games like Bravely Default 2 and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Control: Ultimate Edition and Hitman 3 are also headed to the Nintendo Switch. And other indie games like Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town were announced. Although the direct was unexpected, it is very exciting for Nintendo fans to receive this nice gift from the Big N. In a year without E3, each one of these Directs is a treasure.

Surviving the Aftermath is headed to Switch in the Spring of 2021 and is also in development for PC and Xbox One.
