Surviving Mars is a real-time grand strategy game where players control an expanding Martian colony. They must contend with dust storms, resource shortages, and, although Surviving Mars is not multiplayer, rival colonies.

The society that players are crafting in Surviving Mars is futuristic in many ways, not the least of which is the lack of money on Mars. After all, everyone is concerned with surviving and staying sane, something a funding structure would severely hamper. However, Funding is still a part of the game, and having more of it still makes things easier. Here's how to get more Funding for the colony in Surviving Mars.

How to Get More Money (Funding) in Surviving Mars

Funding is used primarily to ship things from Earth via rocket. These can range anywhere from initial colonists to populate the colony after it's made livable to resources used to actually create various structures. Eventually, these resources can be extracted from Mars itself, but Funding is vital at the start of the game and to supplement lacking resources in the mid-game. While players cannot export resources like Waste Rocks for Funds, for the most part, one exception exists, and that is Rare Metals. Players can ship Rare Metals from Mars to Earth via rockets for a payout proportional to the number of Rare metals shipped.

The other tried and true method of getting additional funding is through research. Two technologies in the Social tree are repeatable and give grants of Funding every time they are completed. The first of these is Martian Patents, which pays out 500 Funding. Later in the game, players have access to Martian Copyrights, which gives a whopping 2000 Funding. It takes a while, but it's a good payout, especially Martian Copyrights later on. If desperate for Funds, it may be well worth moving colonists around to research jobs just to get it researched a little faster.

Some Sponsors come in with more Funding at the start of the game, while others provide Funding at certain intervals. The USA gives Funding at regular intervals while Europe gives it with each research. Blue Sun Corporation can build a Corporate Office to produce Funding and even hire more Applicants to staff the Office.

Paradox Interactive also appears as a Sponsor in the game that allows the construction of a Funding providing building. It may not bestow the power of a Stellaris Crisis, but it does allow for more Funding pretty regularly. Furthermore, certain milestones and events provide additional Funding, but these differ per Sponsor and game.

Surviving Mars is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
