After sitting on the Epic Games Store as an exclusive, Surgeon Simulator 2 will finally get a Steam release, bringing it thousands of other players.

The original first-person game Surgeon Simulator was first created as a challenge during Global Game Jam, where the team of four from Bossa Studios at the time only had 48 hours to create an entire game. Afterward, the developers spent another 48 days creating the commercialized version that's been popularized by gamers and content creators. Now its sequel, Surgeon Simulator 2, will soon end its exclusivity deal with the Epic Games Store and make its way onto Steam.

Though Bossa Studios hasn't announced an official release date for Surgeon Simulator 2, players can expect it sometime this year. Like the Switch version of the indie game, known as Surgeon Simulator CPR, the sequel will also support co-op, where up to three players can join a game through online connectivity in both competitive or multiplayer modes.

Additionally, the developers boast that Surgeon Simulator 2 features a story by Rhianna Pratchett. Surgeon Simulator is obviously not known for its plot so much as its wild gameplay, but Pratchett has worked as a writer for Tomb Raider and Mirror's EdgeSurgeon Simulator 2 has a "limb-twisting plot" brimming with secrets in its campaign mode, but the game is bigger than its predecessor in other ways as well.

In Surgeon Simulator 2, players will get to explore the entire facility, rather than being bogged down to a surgery room or an EMT vehicle, in all-new challenges. The sequel also has a sandbox mode, where players can create their own levels for even more competitive challenges with friends.

Surgeon Simulator 2 is out now for PC via the Epic Games Store and is coming to Steam in 2021.
