After a 15 year run, Supernatural finally saw Sam and Dean hunt its last monster last November. Earlier this week Supernatural star Jensen Ackles announced the long-running series is getting a prequel show but during that announcement it came to light his former costar Jared Padalecki didn't know about the upcoming series.

Ackles and Padalecki appeared in every episode of Supernatural before the show came to an end. Their chemistry on-screen led many fans to assume they were very good friends off-set as well. However, Padalecki's reaction to his fictional brother's big news seemed to indicate that there was a bit of a rift brewing between the two over the prequel series.

Ackles announced the new series, The Winchesters via his official Twitter account. Details of the show in an accompanying article said that the show would feature Sam and Dean's parents, Mary and John. Ackles will also have a part in the show, narrating the action as Dean. The actor is also producing the show alongside his wife and sometimes costar on Supernatural Daneel Ackles. Padalecki quote tweeted his former costar's announcement and started out offering congratulations, while also making it clear he wasn't happy that social media was the way he got the news.

Padalecki said he was happy for Ackles, but was also a bit bent out of shape that his former character didn't have any kind of place in this new show. At one point, one Supernatural fan believed the actor was joking, as the pair have often teased each other on Twitter. However, the actor, who now has his own series on CW in Walker, made it very clear that he wasn't joking around this time.

Padalecki responded to the inquiry about whether or not his first post was a "bad joke" by tweeting that it absolutely wasn't. He went on to say that he was "gutted" and that it was the first he'd heard of The Winchesters continuing some of the stories from Supernatural with a new look.

Ackles, who has also moved onto a brand new role in The Boys as the comic character Soldier Boy, and Padalecki reportedly talked after the social media blowout. TVLine reported this weekend that the pair had a talk and that things are now "all good." However, it doesn't appear the discussion led to any kind of involvement for Padalecki in the Supernatural spinoff series when it finally airs.
