The spinoff from the incredibly popular Supernatural appears to be ramping up its casting, as it just added its two leads. The show will focus on the parents of Sam and Dean Winchester, who were the stars of Supernatural, and the lead members of The Winchesters are the young versions of John and Mary.

The original Supernatural lasted 15 years on television, which would have been quite the accomplishment for any show. It was even more of an accomplishment considering it was a show that aired on a CW network that saw its struggles over the year. Supernatural was also about two brothers who spent their entire lives hunting monsters and fighting demons. Over the course of the show, audiences met several versions of Sam and Dean's parents, and now fans of the first show will get to spend more time seeing how John Winchester and Mary Campbell were before the brothers arrived.

As announced by The CW, The Winchesters has now found the actor and actress that will play John and Mary. Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger will play the leads on the Supernatural spinoff. Donnelly will play Mary as a 19-year-old who was "fighting the forces of darkness" since she was a young child. That was actually one of the plot points that was revealed in later seasons of Supernatural after it was originally thought that she had no idea about the evil forces her husband ended up fighting in later years.

Rodger will play a John Winchester who is a "selfless and clearheaded" Vietnam veteran who meets Mary not long after she had started to think about leaving the "family business" of monster hunting. With John's support and understanding, and the fact that her father went missing, she decides to continue hunting the same kinds of monsters that Sam and Dean fought when they came of age. There has been a little drama around the formation of The Winchesters because the show will also include Jensen Ackles - who played Dean - as the narrator of the story.

While Ackles is also a producer on the program, he apparently neglected to include his long-time Supernatural co-star Jared Padalecki in the project. When Padalecki first heard that there was going to be a Supernatural spinoff, he was publicly quite hurt that he heard about the new show through media reports. As of now, it appears there's still a bit of a rift between the two actors as The Winchesters gets closer to airing.

The Winchesters is in development at The CW.
