With tons of speculation swirling around the casting for James Gunn's highly-anticipated superhero film Superman: Legacy, it's worth asking what the potential actors themselves think of the idea. One actress in particular currently holds the frontrunner spot for one of the movie's leads, and she's got some cautious optimism to share about the prospect.

Rachel Brosnahan, star of Prime Video's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and veteran of Netflix's beloved drama House of Cards, is reportedly the top choice to play Lois Lane in Superman: Legacy. That would certainly be a big deal for the actress, whose time as the genuinely hilarious titular comedian Mrs. Maisel is coming to an end as the aforementioned series wraps up its current and final season. As popular and enjoyable as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been, playing an iconic character like Lois Lane would be on a whole other level. Plus, it would feel like a childhood dream come true for Brosnahan.

During a recent appearance on The View, Brosnahan briefly spoke about her thoughts on the potential casting decision at the prompting of the show's hosts. "I mean, look, take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt, is my first piece of advice," she said, attempting to temper expectations before continuing. "But it would be extraordinary. I grew up watching Lois Lane, this incredibly talented journalist who is far from a damsel in distress. And I would jump at the chance if it arose." It would certainly be a fitting next step for her after playing a similarly ambitious character in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Brosnahan's addictive chemistry with virtually every costar on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel would surely be a boon to her chances in the role of Lois. But it would also depend on who would be playing opposite her. At the moment, the frontrunner for Clark Kent/Superman in Superman: Legacy seems to be The Politician star David Corenswet. Other than those two, Gunn and his team appear to be playing things pretty close to the chest at the moment. This likely means that a big announcement will break the silence somewhere down the line.

As one of the main picks to play Lois in Superman: Legacy, Brosnahan has one heck of a, well, legacy to live up to. From radio serials to movies and TV shows, the actresses behind Lois Lane have been almost invariably excellent and given impressively nuanced takes on the character. Margot Kidder famously played Lois opposite Christopher Reeve in several films from the 70s through the 80s to critical acclaim, despite the movies themselves not all enjoying similar accolades. Meanwhile, Dana Delany voiced the character in Superman: The Animated Series during the 90s, portraying her with plenty of wit that made the character play off Superman brilliantly.

So there's a lot of history to live up to. But Brosnahan is more than up to the task, assuming she does get the role. So fans shouldn't worry about her abilities. Besides, there are plenty of other topics to address. For one, who should play Jimmy Olsen in Superman: Legacy?
