When it comes to the worst games of all time, very few titles come up in the discussion as much as Superman 64. The notoriously terrible superhero flying game centered around DC's iconic hero has been bashed numerous times for its horrendous controls, graphics, and gameplay, as well as its abundance of technical flaws. Evidently, it's not a game even the most diligent of Superman fans would play a single time, however, one player has had to experience the infamous title over 300 times.

That player is Zachary Pligge, who revealed in a Game Informer article that, after losing a bet against with his friend in high school, he has had to play through all of Superman 64 every single month since. According to Pligge, he can now power his way through the title in under two hours, and since losing the bet in 2005, hasn't missed a month since.

Explaining how he managed to lock himself into such a ludicrous bet, Pligge said that when he was a Sophmore in high school, he and a good friend decided to make a wager on which of their two schools would win a cross country race. The loser would have to play a game every month that was chosen by the winner. Pligge came off worse in the bet and, being a big Superman fan, was condemned to play the terrible game every month until he gave up video games for good.

The bet has since taken on greater meaning to Pligge, with his friend sadly passing away in 2009. Completing the terrible game each month has now become a way of treasuring the memory of his dear friend, with the gamer still honoring his bet over a decade after and seemingly not stopping any time soon. While to many, Superman 64 will always remain a terrible game, it's clear that Pligge's initial hatred of his constant monthly trial has turned into a fitting way of honoring a beautiful friendship.

While Superman 64 is undeniably an awful game, it has remained a distinct staple of video game history due to how severely disappointing it was upon release. Many YouTubers have played the title in entertaining videos and there's numerous articles depicting why the game was such a bitter failure online. It's clear that, regardless of the title's dubious quality, it still managed to carve itself a place in the iconic annuals of video game history, even if it is for all the wrong reasons.

Superman 64 is available for the Nintendo 64.
