After a year of availability on iOS platforms, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP has finally made its way to PC via Steam. Featuring gorgeous pixel art and a stunning chiptune prog-rock soundtrack, Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP may just be the most acclaimed game of the past year.
It can be difficult to describe what makes Sword & Sorcery EP so special -- there really is no substitute for going hands-on with the game -- but a new trailer for the PC edition makes a valiant attempt.
On iPad, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP makes use of both multitouch and accelerometer controls, meaning that some changes had to be made when it came time to port the game to PC. Naturally, the graphics were in need of some refinement, too. On the game's official website, a "robotic representative from Superbrothers Inc." helpfully offers this synopsis of Sword & Sworcery EP's trip from handheld devices to PC.
"This new edition includes Jim Guthrie's legendarily epic Sword & Sworcery LP in its entirety. Fitting into the continuum of great adventure games on PC, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP has been re-engineered by videogame wizards at Capy to be a faithful representation of the original touchtronic edition, only it has been adapted to better fit the input style of the two-button mouse. The new edition looks & sounds pretty fancy, plus it's still pretty darn affordable, so we're hoping to connect with a whole new audience..."

From now until April 23rd, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP is available from Steam at a 25% discount. For just $5.99 ($7.99 after the promotion ends), players not only get the game, but also Jim Guthrie's phenomenal soundtrack, which is easily worth the price all by itself (and is available for purchase from Guthrie's website). Much more so than the vast majority of games, music is absolutely crucial to the Sword & Sworcery EP experience. According to Guthrie, that was always the intention.

Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP has already been heaped with praise from such disparate sources as TIME, Destructiod, and The Wall Street Journal, but this weekend could be the proverbial icing on the cake. The game is nominated for no fewer than nine 2012 Canadian Videogame Awards, including Game of the Year.
