With the massively popular Nintendo Switch nearly four years old, many fans are speculating about a possible hardware revision for the hybrid handheld-home console. And with the recent release of the newest next-gen consoles, speculation has been at an all-time high, with many fans dubbing a potentially enhanced Switch the "Switch Pro."

It seems that a new rumor about the Switch Pro pops up nearly every week, from the potential console receiving more impressive games, to the possible move from an LCD screen over to an OLED screen. However, while most rumors seem to be focused on the enhanced console's possible hardware and software capabilities, one new rumor may shed some light on its actual name.

For quite some time, many fans have speculated that the visually impressive Switch-exclusive Monster Hunter Rise would release alongside an enhanced Nintendo Switch console. But over on Twitter, a Brazilian journalist going by PH Brazil explained that the announcement of a new Monster Hunter Rise-themed Nintendo Switch bundle in Japan means that fans likely won't see a revision of the Switch until the next fiscal year, briefly mentioning the name "Super Switch."

Aside from this tweet, PH Brazil has not yet revealed any more information about the supposed Super Switch. It goes without saying that Nintendo has had some interesting naming conventions in the past, especially with the Nintendo 3DS line of systems, and a Super Switch may just be a callback to the company's classic Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or SNES. It's also worth noting that this isn't the first time the name "Super Switch" has been mentioned on the social media platform, with another insider claiming in October of last year that the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be a launch title for the Super Switch.

Ever since its initial release, the Nintendo Switch has continued to dominate video game hardware sales, even making up 87% of Japan's console sales in 2020. While some might say that this signals the perfect time for Nintendo to capitalize on the Switch's popularity by releasing a new console soon, others might say that a new console revision would only draw sales away from the current Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite, which are already extremely popular as it stands.

As fans continue to speculate about a new Nintendo Switch system, it looks like Switch owners will have a lot on their plate in the coming months. With new releases like Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, Persona 5 Strikers, and Monster Hunter Rise releasing soon, there is still plenty to look forward to, with likely more to come.

A new Nintendo Switch model is reportedly in development.
