Nintendo fans have likely been kept preoccupied with the arrival of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS less than a week ago (a game that we praised in our smashing review), but many players are beginning to wonder when the Wii U iteration of the fan-favorite fighting series will be making its debut. Some gamers have begun to speculate that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was going to be pushed back into 2015, but the Big N has now released official word that that won’t be the case.
Issuing an official press release this morning, Nintendo announced that its upcoming home console entry in the Super Smash Bros. series will arrive on November 21, 2014. Past retailer listings have proven to be spot-on, as the crossover-centric brawler will be arriving on that exact date, but Ninty also detailed launch dates for two upcoming items.
Accompanying the arrival of Smash on Wii U, the company’s toys-to-life Amiibo initiative unveiled during E3 2014 was given its first launch details; the cutesy action figures will officially be arriving alongside the fighting game this November 21, 2014. Initially there will be 12 toys to choose from: Mario; Peach; Yoshi; Donkey Kong; Link; Fox; Samus; Wii Fit Trainer; Villager; Pikachu; Kirby; and Marth.
While those characters have been known for quite some time already, the house of Mario announced that six more mascots (Zelda, Diddy Kong, Luigi, Little Mac, Pit and Captain Falcon) will be arriving in December.
To wrap everything up, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was given a North American release date and it will indeed be making its original 2014 Holiday window. Set to arrive on December 5 this year, the puzzle game will be compatible with Amiibo figures – although support for the toys won’t be arriving until 2015 after a downloadable update has been released.
Most interestingly, Captian Toad will retail for $39.99 when it does arrive on store shelves and the Nintendo eShop. This could be a sign that the game is considerably lighter on content than other offerings, but it should make for a fun title on the Wii U nonetheless.
