Super Smash Bros Wii U 3DS Mother Brain

Fans of the Super Smash Bros. franchise have had plenty of new information revealed to them thus far, and details on the new games just keep coming. While many gamers are looking forward to seeing what the games' final roster will look like, seeing major characters score spots as Assist Trophies is equally enlightening.

The popular character from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Skull Kid, has settled in as Assist Trophy — as have Starfy and Wario Ware's Ashley — and now another recognizable character has been confirmed to be featured in a weaponized cameo. This creature is none other than the infamous Mother Brain from the Metroid series, and it looks to be quite a devastating obstacle for fighters.

Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai posted the following information about the new Mother Brain Assist Trophy on the games' MiiVerse page:

"Pic of the day. Housed within the Control Capsule! Protected by Rinkas! Eyeball armed with a Laser Brain Attack!! The massive Assist Trophy Mother Brain joins the collection!!"

The sheer demeanour and scale of Mother Brain is in line with her appearance in the original Metroid, but there's no denying how creepy the behemoth looks in high definition. Her attack appears to be quite devastating as well (as is evident by Samus being fried in the newly released screenshot) and should prove to be a major pain to the combatants that failed to summon the creature.

Mother Brain was never a character that fans really wanted to see made playable, which is why the character's addition as an Assist Trophy is so welcomed. From another perspective, Ridley is one of the most requested characters for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, and his inclusion has yet to be ruled out.

Still, Mother Brain's appearance at least shows that Sakurai and his team are focussed on bringing Metroid representatives to light, but whether or not that will hold true for a playable Ridley (or casting the character as something along the lines of a stage hazard) remains to be seen.

What do you think of Mother Brain's inclusion as an Assist Trophy? What other characters do you think would make good Assist Trophies in the new Super Smash Bros.?
