Despite being fighting games, the latest entires in the Super Smash Bros. franchise are absolutely immense in terms of content. The rich offering of characters, modes and collectibles found within the Wii U and 3DS games is more than enough to keep fans entertained for quite some time. That said, after a few months of hands-on time with the titles, gamers are understandably hungry for more, and they'll be getting it soon in the form of the highly anticipated Mewtwo DLC.

As one of the more adored and desired characters, Mewtwo's return is something that many longtime players of Super Smash Bros. have been hoping for following the character's exclusion from Brawl. Given the sheer fan demand for the fighter, it's understandable that many gamers may be getting antsy. Fortunately, it sounds like the wait to play as the Legendary Pokemon in Nintendo's all-star fighting game won't be much longer.

During a gaming event in Japan, the creator of Super Smash Bros., Masahiro Sakurai, confirmed that work on Mewtwo was "pretty much done" and that fans should expect to hear more from Nintendo in the very near future. Since Mewtwo was previously given a Spring 2015 release window, it sounds like the psychic cat-like combatant is right on schedule.

Taking this news into consideration, it's entirely possible that the house of Mario may be gearing up to do another Nintendo Direct where it'll reveal a release date for Mewtwo. If that's the case then it's possible that additional downloadable content could also be announced during the event. Although previous reports claim that no additional DLC is currently planned for the pair of titles, there would be no better time and place to reveal premium add-on content for Smash.

With this in mind, stay tuned to Game Rant for more information on Super Smash Bros. and news on Mewtwo's imminent release.
