Fighting game fans have had a ton to keep them occupied in recent months, and that rings true for players of Nintendo's all-star crossover Super Smash Bros.. Outside of the recently released Mewtwo as a downloadable add-on, however, fans haven't had too much to go on in regards to what content they can expect. That is, of course, for the previously announced return of the fan-favorite Earthbound character, Lucas.
In the wake of the veteran fighter's reveal during a Nintendo Direct in April, the only concrete fact that fans knew about Lucas' pay-for return to Super Smash Bros. was that it would happen sometime in June. At long last, the Big N has finally started talking specifics about the character's release, stating that players can now mark June 15 on their calendars.
As many fans will attest, the removal of Lucas in the transition from Super Smash Bros. Brawl to the new Wii U and 3DS entries was a hard pill to swallow. Nintendo, seeing that there was demand for the fighter's return, then decided to make bringing the character back a priority. Now fans are just over a week away from seeing the blonde boy psychic throttle the likes of Mario and Pac-Man.
The veteran will run players $3.99USD to purchase him exclusively on either the Nintendo 3DS OR Wii U, but fans that own both are able to spend a special price of $4.99USD to unlock Lucas across both versions of Smash. This pricing scheme is identical to that of Mewtwo, so there really aren't any surprises to be found with this news.
Not content with the new character DLC alone, Nintendo also confirmed plans to launch additional Mii Fighter costumes. These will include the previously announced Splatoon costumes, which will run $0.75USD for each platform-specific option, but can be obtained across both systems for $1.15USD. Attire based on Animal Crossing's loveable, guitar-strumming canine KK Slider is also en route, but its release date and price is still TBD.
It's also possible that the long-awaited MiiVerse stage and Tournament Mode could be hitting Super Smash Bros. on the same day as Lucas. With the Nintendo Digital Event set to reveal an ample amount of new content the day following the new fighter's arrival (June 16, 2015 at 9 am PST, to be exact), it's likely that gamers can expect even more Smash-related news in the very near future. With that in mind, stay tuned to Game Rant for more details.
Are you excited to finally suit up as the blonde protagonist? What other characters would you like to see join the battle?
Lucas will be arriving as downloadable content in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U on June 15, 2015 starting at 8 a.m. PT.
