At this point, fans shouldn't be surprised by the unlockable fighters that await them in the new Super Smash Bros. games. Since the game has already arrived on the Nintendo 3DS platform, and has managed to sell an impressive 2.8 million copies worldwide, the roster and all of its secret combatants shouldn't shock anyone. That said, there's still something special about the previously released cinematic trailers that have shown off every newcomer thus far.

The latest combatant to receive their own trailer is none other than Duck Hunt Dog. Not one to work alone, this time the irritating canine is pairing up with his once mortal enemy – the duck. This duo equates to what is easily one of the most bizarre additions that the Super Smash Bros. franchise has seen to date, but the characters' combined moveset speaks for itself.

Utilizing items from past NES shooting games (even going so far as to reference the players themselves by summoning the all too familiar NES Zapper reticle) the characters manage to be a fantastic nod to the peripheral that helped make Nintendo's first console a success. Add in the inclusion of R.O.B. and Mr. Game & Watch, and the often overlooked backlog of the company is very well represented in the fighting game.

Past newcomer trailers like Little Mac and Greninja have been a great way to keep fans awaiting the game engaged. That said, even after the 3DS version has launched, these types of cinematic tributes are a nice gesture – especially since the removal of Subspace Emissary has left fans with very few cutscenes to enjoy.

Nintendo also confirmed that the classic NES game Duck Hunt will be arriving on the Wii U, which seems all too appropriate given the functionality of the Wii Remote. The 1985 old-school hunting simulator is currently without a release date, but it will likely be appearing on the Virtual Console at some point in the near future.
