Wii Fit Trainer Joins ‘Super Smash Bros.’

By | 3 years ago

Nintendo has revealed a third newcomer for its forthcoming Super Smash Bros. games on Wii U and 3DS, but it’s not a character anyone would have expected. As it turns out, none other than the trainer from Wii Fit will be joining the fray, according to a very surprising new trailer shown off during Nintendo’s E3 showcase.

After revealing the first ever gameplay trailer of Super Smash Bros. during its latest Nintendo Direct, the Big N managed to get gamers amped with the inclusion of Mega Man (and to a lesser extent Animal Crossing‘s Villager). That’s why the latest addition to the already packed roster comes as a huge surprise to longtime fans and casual Smashers alike.

The reveal of Wii Fit Trainer during the Nintendo showcase, garnered laughs and cheers from the press in attendance, but the character’s list of moves appears to be very solid. There’s no question that her inclusion in the new Super Smash Bros. wasn’t something that fans wanted, but the end result is a unique character that pokes fun at Nintendo’s more casual games — while still managing to kick all sorts of iconic butt.

Nintendo’s official Super Smash Bros. website has since updated with information on the Newcomer, along with a number of screenshots that showcase Wii Fit Trainer in action.

Wii Fit Trainer Super Smash Bros

Falling in line with other bizarre characters such as Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B., Wii Fit Trainer should manage to fit in well with the zaniness of the Super Smash Bros. franchise. It’s also a sign that there are likely to be plenty of other crazy roster additions that no one saw coming. That’s far from a bad thing, but it’ll be interesting to see what other characters (both veterans and newcomers) make the final cut.

Super Smash Bros. will be arriving on Wii U and 3DS in 2014.
