Nintendo is making sure its smash hit title, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, is an ever green title for the Switch console. One way the company has ensured that longevity is through additional DLC characters. While another Fire Emblem character may not have been what fans wanted from the final roster spot on the Fighters Pass, Nintendo did confirm another six are coming over the next two years. In addition to characters, Nintendo has continued to update the game and add new content like spirits. However, one highly requested item doesn't appear to be coming to the game after all.

Last week, Super Smash Bros Ultimate game director, Masahiro Sakurai, posted an image to his Twitter account featuring Pit from the Kid Icarus series. Eagle eyed fans analyzed the image further and discovered that the Battlefield stage in the behind Pit not only showed Inkling Girl and the familiar Smash Banners hanging in the background, but that it was actually from the WiiU version of the game. Naturally, this sent the fanbase into a frenzy expecting some sort of DLC announcement.

Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. Sakurai responded to his own image a day later likely after seeing many of the responses and confirmed that the classic Battlefield stage isn't getting added to Ultimate. The stage in the image is actually a developer stage the team used to test how fighter models in the game would look inside of the engine. He ended his English Tweet by saying that the stage won't be found in the final version of the game.

Sakurai also revealed that the images he had been posting recently were from work in progress builds of the game when it was under active development. These were intended to be fun, behind the scenes looks at the game that were originally only shared privately between Sakurai and other developers. These include all sorts of things like R.O.B riding a shark, Dracula kneeling beside rock form Kirby, Villager seemingly handing Tom Nook a bag of bells, and much more.

While Battlefield WiiU won't be returning any time soon, or at all, Nintendo has committed at least another two years to the game with Fighter Pass Vol. 2. Sakurai has confirmed that the six characters have already been selected, though it hasn't stopped the community from creating wish lists and speculating as to who could be included. One such fan favorite character, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, likely won't be making the cut. Even though another Square Enix character is already on the roster, the hold up appears to be with with Disney Japan, though it's not known why. While the news is disappointing, at least Nintendo has six other characters coming which will hope to fill the void.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
