Rumors regarding Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's next DLC fighter continue to swirl, but one rumor in particular continues to stand out. In June, prior to E3, a rumor picked up steam claiming that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's fourth DLC fighter would be from Undertale. This rumor continued to perpetuate through August but has gained new attention due to another supposed leak. The new leak points to Undertale protagonist Frisk being Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's next fighter.

The original Smash Bros. Ultimate rumor spread around June 8, prior to E3 2019. The leak claimed that the second, third, and fourth DLC characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be The Hero of Dragon Quest, Banjo-Kazooie, and a character from Undertale. This leak came prior to the announcement of these characters, giving it credence, and claimed that its sources would not confirm that the Undertale fighter would be Sans, so it assumed Frisk would be the fighter instead.

More recent comes a leak from 4chan that should be considered wholly unreliable, beyond the fact that it appears to support the Frisk rumor. The rumor claims that the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter would be female, that she's not a "demanded character," and that she'd "disappoint and confuse a lot of people." The leak also says to expect the reveal on September 12. This could be coming from someone who isn't a fan of Undertale, a strikingly successful indie game.

Many outlets have speculated that this character could be D.Va based on another leak insinuating Overwatch is coming to the Nintendo Switch, in tandem with yet another rumor saying the new character has a mech or something like it. But this 4chan rumor seems more in line with Frisk, who is a girl, is not a highly demanded fighter, and is likely to confuse Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players who all have their own favorites.

True or not, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans should likely expect news regarding the game's next DLC fighter relatively soon. Nintendo has held a Direct in the first weeks of September for the past two years, a build-up to the year's holiday season. A release date for Banjo-Kazooie paired with the reveal of the next fighter seems likely. Given the leaks so far, Undertale's Frisk seems to be highly possible, but it's impossible to know for sure.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
