Yesterday Nintendo announced a special Super Smash Bros. Ultimate presentation for the new DLC fighter, Terry Bogard. At the time, Nintendo confirmed that a release date for the Terry Bogard DLC would be announced during the presentation. Nintendo followed through and, much to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players' delight, released the Terry Bogard DLC during the 45-minute presentation. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players can purchase and download Terry Bogard right now.
The 45-minute presentation ended up being somewhat of a red herring for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players. Fans went in expecting a Nintendo Direct-style show, concise and informative while focusing entirely on the DLC character. While the presentation did end up being very informative, it definitely wasn't concise. Instead, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game director Masahiro Sakurai gave an in-depth lecture on the Neo Geo console, the Fatal Fury franchise, and Terry Bogard's origins.
Alongside Terry Bogard comes a range of other content. First, there's the King of Fighters stadium, an all-new stage for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There are even some friendly King of Fighter faces in the background of the map, including Geese Howard and many others. Notably, Mai Shiranui has been left out, likely due to age concerns. There's also an incredible amount of music from Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters that has been brought into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with Terry Bogard.
It took over six minutes, but Terry Bogard as a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character does become the presentation's focus. Sakurai deliberately goes through each of Terry Bogard's moves, while also explaining how his moves are inspired by past Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters games. Whether it be Terry Bogard's Crack Shoot, Burning Knuckle, or his Power Wave, these abilities are all well-known to those familiar with Terry Bogard's past.
Terry Bogard will be the fourth Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter released as part of the game's Fighter Pass. Before Terry Bogard came Persona 5's Joker, Dragon Quest's Hero, and Banjo-Kazooie's, well, Banjo and Kazooie. The fifth DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has yet to be announced, though rumors continue to swirl. It could be Fortnite's Jonesy or Ninja Gaiden's Ryu Hyabusa, or any number of other possible fighters. Anyone is a possibility at this point.
