Kazuya Mishima is the latest character to be revealed for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, making the Tekken veteran the fourth character from an existing fighting game to join Smash Bros Ultimate. Similar to other guest fighters, a majority of Kazuya's assets have been painstakingly replicated to fit the 2D platforming gameplay that Smash is historically known for.

While the transitions from 2D fighters including Fatal Fury and Street Fighter have been faithful recreations as Ultimate itself is a 2D game, Tekken transitions are of a different challenge. Despite its origins as a 2D fighter from the beginning of the series, starting with Tekken 4, the series shifted to full 3D movement with Kazuya in Smash based on his Tekken 7 literation. However, the developers were able to successfully commit to as many of his animations and move list from his original game onto Ultimate as possible.

Recently, a fan used several videos from Kazuya's initial reveal as a point of reference to the many moves that the Mishima has in Tekken 7, including his signature Electric Wind God Fist. Other moves, including his axe kick, known as "Tsunami Kick," his "Flash Punch Combo," and his throws are complete with animations that are as close to the original source material as possible. While his total move list in Ultimate is nowhere near as expansive as it is in Tekken 7, the attention to detail is impressive when seen from a traditional 2D perspective.

Things become even more incredible when combos are added to the comparisons, showing sample combos accurately recreated in Tekken 7 as they were initially shown in the Kazuya gameplay trailers. Certain liberties had to be taken, such as Kazuya's "Air Inferno" command grab in Smash, which is a modified Electric Wind God Fist into his demon laser. Other Tekken mechanics including his "10-Hit Combo" are also based on his Tekken 10-Hit Combo, even to the opponent's reactions to the attacks.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Tekken fans alike will have a lot to look forward to on June 28th as the Smash Direct is expected to show more news involving Kazuya and his release date. While other features including potential Mii costumes have yet to be revealed, news involving the future of the series may be revealed as the final DLC character for Smash remains to be announced. Until further announcements are made, fans continue to fantasize about the potential of Kazuya as a character, including Kazuya's Smash victory screen.
