Despite releasing nearly four years ago, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate commands a significant amount of popularity within the gaming community. Being the latest entry in Nintendo's long-running, fighting game crossover franchise, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has managed to retain a lot of attention and success since its initial launch. Though, according to the game's director and creator, an ongoing trend will soon be ending.

Since the release of the original Super Smash Bros. on the N64 back in 1999, Masahiro Sakurai has served as a key figure in the creation of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Given how actively involved he is in the development process, Sakurai has also communicated with his community of fans over the last several years. However, it seems that Sakurai will soon be unable to continue a small ritual he started doing on social media a while back.

Over on Twitter, Sakurai has been posting daily images of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots that were taken during the final months of development for the game. Now, according to Sakurai, he will run out of images to post sometime in August, truly marking the end of an era, as far as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is concerned.

For how much strain and difficulty Sakurai has had to face in terms of directing and developing the Super Smash Bros. series, the franchise is still very important to him. The amount of praise and support Sakurai has received from the community has been staggering, so for a lot of people, the fact that Sakurai won't be posting these images anymore is quite saddening.

It's amazing how much Sakurai has contributed to the gaming industry as a whole. This is largely owed to how dedicated Sakurai is to not just Super Smash Bros., but video games in general. Considering that Masahiro Sakurai owns both an Xbox Series X and a PS5 goes to show the level of love and commitment he has for the gaming industry outside the sphere he occupies.

In any case, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Super Smash Bros. going forward. As of right now, Sakurai is unsure if the Super Smash Bros. series will continue after the release of the final DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. While fans can still enjoy the abundance of content within Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Sakurai will continue to work diligently to support the game's playerbase.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
