Super Smash Bros. Ultimate contains a number of iconic characters as playable fighters from across not only Nintendo's history, but a number of third-party companies as well. Bandai Namco, Sega, and Capcom all have a spot in the roster as a playable fighter or other representation such as spirits or assist trophies. Capcom in particular has three playable characters from both Mega Man and Street Fighter, two of the company's most iconic franchises, in the form of Mega Man himself and the characters Ryu and Ken.

When gamers think of fighting game characters, Ryu is usually one that pops up first, being both a mainstay of Street Fighter and the face of the franchise. Ryu was first added to Nintendo's crossover series as a guest fighter in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS as a DLC before becoming a part of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's base roster. With his appearance in the upcoming Street Fighter 6 as well, a fan decided to pay tribute to his newest look in the game with a special costume mod.

This mod was created by Large_Leader, a popular modder in the community. The mod is based on Ryu's appearance in Street Fighter 6. This includes giving Ryu his scraggly unshaven beard, as well as a Buddihist robe similar to his master Gouken. Unlike Street Fighter 6's incredibly realistic look and feel, this mod is built using Ryu's original model from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a base.

As a result, this Super Smash Bros. Ultimate mod doesn't feel like a model import but instead a hand-crafted custom costume to fit the game's limitations and graphics. Large_Leader notes that there are a few limitations with the mod, most notably with clipping issues with Ryu's cloak and sandals and the costume only being able to be modded over the first and default slot. Many fans were still excited to see a costume based off of Street Fighter 6 being modded into the game regardless.

This mod shows not only the amount of work and dedication that fans have for these characters, but also how excited they are for Capcom's upcoming fighting game. Early impressions of Street Fighter 6 from fans and critics have been very positive, with many loving what this newest entry is bringing to the gameplay, as well as highly requested competitive improvements such as rollback netcode. Ryu's inclusion in Street Fighter 6 has been greatly praised as well, with fans loving not only his new look but how his gameplay has changed from previous entries.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
