Last week's Nintendo Direct finally gave fans the announcement of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's latest DLC character, following the release of Final Fantasy 7's Sephiroth last December. The opening of the Direct revealed that Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Pyra and Mythra will be joining the game in March. Since then, Super Smash Bros. series creator Masahiro Sakurai has released a screenshot teasing the characters' in-game appearance. Now, Nintendo has announced that Sakurai will return to host a stream revealing Pyra and Mythra's move-sets on March 4, 2021.

Pyra, who can switch to Mythra as part of her move-set similar to Zelda and Sheik or Pokemon Trainer, is the fourth character to be included in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's second Fighter Pass, which previously included Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7, Steve from Minecraft, and MinMin from ARMS. The character made her debut in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which released on Nintendo Switch in December 2017 and was developed by internal Nintendo studio Monolith Soft, which has developed the Xenoblade series since the original title in 2010, as well as assisting development of The Legend of Zelda series, including titles like Breath of the Wild.

The in-depth look at Pyra and Mythra in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be streamed on March 4, and will be hosted by series creator Masahiro Sakurai, who has hosted previous events for all of the DLC characters so far. The presentation will be roughly 35 minutes long and won't include any announcements for future fighters. Previous showcases have featured Sakurai strictly showcasing the characters' movesets, while also revealing their accompanying stage and music tracks joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In recent events, surprising Mii costume announcements have also been part of these showcases, including Sans from Undertale, Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes, and Vault Boy from Fallout. The events also usually reveal information about upcoming amiibo figures.

Pyra was first teased for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate all the way back in 2018, when Sakurai said that he wanted to include the character from the game, so he included Rex, the game's protagonist, as a Mii costume included with the first Fighters Pass. While fans considered that this meant that no Xenoblade Chronicles 2 character would come to the game as DLC, especially with Pyra and Mythra being included in Smash Bros. as Spirits, it seems that didn't count the two out. Sakurai has been outspoken about his appreciation for the game in the past, as he is a fan of Japanese role-playing games (hence the inclusion of characters such as Persona 5's Joker and Final Fantasy's Cloud in Super Smash Bros.)

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
