Now that the final character has been added to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, fans are able to look back at it and see the kinds of games, franchises, and consoles that have been represented over the past three years.

While, obviously, Nintendo representation on the roster blows all competing consoles out of the water, there's still a healthy share of PlayStation characters who managed to make their way into the crossover fighting game. Some appear in plenty of games on both Nintendo and Sony consoles while others barely seem to have made it to the Switch in the first place.

Joker - Persona 5

Joker is perhaps the least represented on the Nintendo Switch as Persona 5 isn't available on the console. In fact, Joker wasn't playable on the Switch in any games other than Smash until earlier this year when Persona 5 Strikers was released for the system. Many fans had hoped that his inclusion in the fighting game was a sign that P5 was getting a port, but so far, it seems like that isn't in the works.

Hero - Dragon Quest 11

Hero is one of many characters from franchises that have received releases across the gaming spectrum. Appearing on consoles from Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony, Dragon Quest 11 feels like a great JRPG to have included in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate due to its popularity and its wide reach.

Terry - Fatal Fury

The Fatal Fury series has been around for nearly 30 years and, due to its status as a classic arcade fighter, it makes sense that Nintendo would want to bring a character from it to Smash Ultimate. Terry has appeared on numerous PlayStation consoles as the Fatal Fury games have been ported, remastered, and remade over the years.

Kazuya - Tekken

Tekken is synonymous with the PlayStation brand as it was the console's premiere exclusive fighting game for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. The series started reaching more platforms with Tekken 6 and eventually made its way to Nintendo consoles with Tekken Tag Tournament 2. As one of gaming's most iconic fighters, Kazuya was a shoo-in for Smash Ultimate.

Sora - Kingdom Hearts

Sora finally made his way to Smash pleasing fans of Kingdom Hearts everywhere with the final announcement today. Kingdom Hearts originated as a PlayStation franchise with its first two mainline entries releasing exclusively for the PlayStation 2. Many of its games made their way to other systems, but Sora and friends were mascots for the PlayStation brand for quite some time following the game's initial debut.

Solid Snake - Metal Gear

The Metal Gear series is a little challenging to parse given its often obtuse nature, making many question what the true mainline entries in the series are. Solid Snake has made plenty of appearances in the series over the years, but the Konami franchise was often a PlayStation exclusive, making him a major face of the brand. When Snake was revealed to be a character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, he ushered in a new era of Smash characters: one where anyone from any franchise, regardless of console or brand, could join the fight.

Sonic - Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic-Colors-S-Rank

Ever since SEGA stopped producing consoles, it's been hard to nail down where fans will see the blue blur next. While certainly not a mascot for the brand, Sonic has spent plenty of time on PlayStation consoles with entries like Sonic Generations and Sonic Mania being some of his standout appearances on the platform. He seemed like the perfect addition to Smash due to SEGAs old rivalry with Nintendo in the earlier days of home console gaming.

Mega Man - Mega Man

Mega Man Mega Buster (1)

Similar to Sonic, it's hard to say where the Mega Man series is most at home. The franchise initially appeared on Nintendo consoles and has a large library available on systems across Nintendo's catalog, but Mega Man has seen plenty of PlayStation releases as well. The character isn't necessarily associated with PlayStation in any meaningful way, but most mainline games in the series have made their way to the platform at some point or another.

Ryu and Ken - Street Fighter

The Street Fighter series has plenty of history on PlayStation consoles but wasn't ever established as "PlayStation's fighting game" in the same way that Tekken was. That said, Street Fighter is still recognized as one of the best fighting series of all time and has been featured on PlayStation consoles many times over the years. Ryu and Ken seem like perfect fits for Smash due to their iconic nature of being some of the most recognizable faces of the entire franchise.

Cloud and Sephiroth - Final Fantasy 7

There have been plenty of ports of Final Fantasy 7 over the years, but the game is certainly thought of as a PlayStation title. The game was initially released exclusively on the original PlayStation and has been an iconic title ever since. Recently Final Fantasy 7 reestablished itself as a PlayStation title with the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake that was released exclusively on PlayStation consoles once more. Cloud and Sephiroth are the two most iconic characters in the game and perhaps even the entire series so including them in Smash seemed like a good fit. What's more, both characters have appeared in the Kingdom Hearts series as well so they accompany Sora in a way essentially making it so that he isn't the only KH character in the franchise.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on the Nintendo Switch.
