Super Smash Bros. is a franchise known for combining gaming characters that usually wouldn't appear together and making them brawl it out in some of the most iconic settings from video games. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate arguably did this the best as it included a total of 82 characters, with many of those being from non-Nintendo games such as Sora from Kingdom Hearts and Banjo & Kazooie from the games of the same name.
Another character that appeared as DLC in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was Minecraft Steve, which is the default skin that Minecraft players spawn with when they first load into the game. He has become somewhat of a gaming icon. Considering Minecraft's impact on the video game industry, many were expecting Nintendo to include some kind of Easter egg dedicated to it. Some anticipated a Support Trophy, but many were excited to see the announcement of Steve as a playable character. Now, over a year and a half after Steve first dropped, one player has figured out his infinite combo.
An infinite combo in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a technique that, as the name suggests, allows a player to inflict an infinite amount of damage. More specifically, an infinite combo can only be achieved if the opponent cannot interrupt it, dodge out of the way, or block the incoming attacks. Therefore, it requires a fair bit of skill to pull off. Steve's infinite combo has him create a dirt block while standing on the edge of it. Then, he uses his flint and steel to inflict damage before creating another dirt block.
Due to the player's positioning on the dirt, they can create multiple blocks without hitting the floor, leading them to consistently output damage. This combo can end, sending the opponent flying off-screen. However, it does require some expert timing to pull off, considering that any misstep would lead to the opponent being able to block or dodge out of the way. Minecraft Steve has some more interesting moves in Super Smash Bros. if a player does not want to simply focus on his dirt block setup and flint and steel attack.
There are a few other characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that can make an infinite combo. King Dedede's down throw, for example, can be used for an infinite chain grab combo which continuously grabs players while they are in hit stun. With Steve's infinite combo, there could be some changes to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate meta, as players now have to watch that they don't get caught in the fiery death of a flint and steel attack.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now on Switch.
