A special Super Smash Bros. Ultimate surprise was revealed during The Game Awards 2018. An exclusive trailer revealed the first fighter to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Challenger Pack DLC will be Joker, the protagonist from the critically acclaimed JRPG Persona 5. With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launching in just a matter of hours, or already available in certain regions, the announcement brought about a level of energy and excitement to The Game Awards that few if any other announcements received.

To make the announcement, the entire theater's lights shut off at The Game Awards 2018 before a flickering screen came on. A discussion between the thieving protagonists of Persona 5 revealed that Joker had come to the event to steal a treasure. Asked whether he'd left a calling card, Joke flipped his card revealing the Super Smash Bros. logo and confirming the character's inclusion in the Nintendo Switch fighting game.

The exact details regarding Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and its Challenger Pack #1 DLC remain to be revealed, beyond Joker's inclusion. Considering Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is launching tonight, it's unlikely that Nintendo feels the need to rush to reveal the remaining members of the Challenger Pack. Fans will likely be too busy playing the game to stress about it, but with the reveal of Joker being added to the roster fans' imaginations will likely run wild regarding who will join next.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available right around now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
