It goes without saying that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's roster of fighters is one of the most prolific in all of video games. All of Smash Bros. Ultimate's DLC characters have turned out to be great additions to the roster, but there are still plenty of potential fighters out there who would also be great additions.

While the final decision regarding which characters are added to the roster is reserved for Nintendo and Ultimate's director Masahiro Sakurai, there are plenty of developers out there who have weighed in on why their character should be given a spot in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Now, the director of the 2004 Ninja Gaiden reboot, Tomonobu Itagaki, has said that he wants series protagonist Ryu Hayabusa to have a chance to throw down in Ultimate.

Ever since Nintendo announced that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U would be adding DLC fighters over time, fans have made lists of who they want to see added to the prolific fighting game. With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate adding a total of 12 DLC characters, there have been plenty of chances for fans to see their most wanted character added to Ultimate. Though Ryu Hayabusa isn't topping the vast majority of player's lists for their most wanted DLC fighter, he would undoubtedly be worthy of earning a spot, according to Itagaki. In an interview with Dexerto, Itagaki said he would love to see Ryu Hayabusa included as a DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

When asked whether or not Itagaki believed Ryu had a shot at earning a DLC spot in Ultimate, Itagaki said, "Super Smash Bros. is a very popular game. I think it’s a stage big enough for Ryu Hayabusa to play an active role." He's not wrong, considering the Ninja Gaiden games are some of retro gaming's most renowned titles. While the Ninja Gaiden series has some difficulties transitioning to modern gaming, there are still plenty of gamers out there who want to see Ninja Gaiden succeed today.

However, there are only three more open DLC slots remaining for Smash Bros. Ultimate's last Fighters Pass. It's also likely that those three slots have already been filled behind the scenes. Though Ryu Hayabusa would surely make plenty of veteran gamers happy, more contemporary fighters like Sora from Kingdom Hearts would make tons of modern-day gamers happy. While there is always that element of which DLC character would please the most Super Smash Bros. players, at the end of the day the players aren't the ones determining the final roster.

In a similar vein, while game developers and companies may have some sort of influence over Nintendo and Sakurai's decision to include a character as DLC, it's ultimately out of there hands as well. Sakurai is an avid gamer that enjoys both old and new experiences, so fans know he doesn't lean too heavily to one side or the other. Whether or not Ryu Hayabusa makes an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remains to be seen, but it's safe to say he would definitely fit right in.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available for the Nintendo Switch.
