Minecraft players everywhere were stunned when it was revealed that Minecraft's Steve and Alex would join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as DLC fighters. While the reveal reaction was so intense that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Minecraft crossover crashed Twitter, once the Minecraft characters were actually added to the game, players noticed something unusual about Steve's win screen.

When Steve won a round, he'd be holding onto a slab of meat, the same kind that he regularly munches on both in Minecraft and Smash Bros. Unfortunately, the angle and placement of the object made viewers think of something else entirely, of the NSFW variety.

Players quickly turned to social media upon this discovery, and it appears that Nintendo was fast to take notice of it. The 9.0.1. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate update just landed, and while it includes a number of gameplay adjustments as one would expect, it also takes away the slab of steak from the Minecraft characters' victory screens, doing away with any controversy that could stem from it.

Of course, there was nothing intentionally offensive about the victory screen. It may come as a surprise to some players that Nintendo didn't think anything of the victory animation prior to its release to the general public, but at this point, anyone who may have been offended by the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Minecraft Steve animation can rest easy. However, there are likely some players who actually liked the animation and are probably sad to see it go.

While Nintendo hasn't shied away from more mature games in recent history, like Bayonetta or even the upcoming Switch port of Hatred, the company has also made a strong effort to protect younger players from anything obscene in its E-for-Everyone games and related projects. It recently removed an infamous meme from Super Mario 64, even though the voice actor of Mario himself said it was never actually 'So long, Gay Bowser' as players had believed. The company also took down an NSFW Princess Peach fan game recently, though it was in development for eight years before Nintendo finally took action.

In addition to removing the steak, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate made a few other adjustments to Steve. After downloading the update, players should no longer have to worry about phasing through blocks or the landscape. Issues with the minecart have also been ironed out, including its unintentional ability to make other player characters uncontrollable or warping them back to where they initially landed in the minecart. While these issues may have irritated some, the fix came quickly, and issues were bound to arise after Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's stages had to be retooled for Minecraft building to even be possible.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
