Another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter is spreading across the internet. It seems like every time a Fighter Pass rumor is quashed, five more rise up to take its place. The latest rumor stems from a supposedly leaked audio recording of the character's announcement trailer. The clip features Halo's Cortana telling Master Chief that they've been invited to fight in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Speculation about the audio clip says that it may be a leak from early rehearsals for The Game Awards 2019.
"Chief. Chief? I need you to wake up," starts the recording, which does sound quite a bit like Cortana's actual voice actor. "I just received an incoming transmission. You might want to hear this." Cortana goes on to say that UNSC is sending over an invitation for the both of them to join in on a "battle royale" by the name of Smash Bros. "Some guy named Mario is taunting you. Looks like they really want to see what you're made of. What do you say we show them?" The entire audio clip is layered under some of Halo's iconic musical effect, as well as some distortion, as if it was recorded off of a microphone.
It should be clear immediately that something is very off with this supposed leak. That Nintendo would announce Master Chief joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with a video where Cortana explains the entire situation is questionable. That it would be leaked online via an audio clip makes it all the more suspect. In other words, this leak is extremely unreliable and shouldn't be taken seriously at all. That said, never say never.

The possibility of Master Chief being added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is non-zero. The fact that Nintendo partnered with Microsoft to add Banjo-Kazooie to the game means that there's definitely an opportunity to add other Microsoft-owned characters in the future. And, if you ask fans, Master Chief would be high on their list. But he's just one of dozens of characters Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players would likely want to see added.
While the veracity of this supposed leak is quite low already, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans who are keeping their hopes up for a Master Chief DLC release won't have long to wait for confirmation. The leak claims to be for an announcement planned for The Game Awards 2019, which airs on December 12. If this leak is true, it will be confirmed there. If it isn't, then while this leak may be false, there's always a hope that Master Chief could be included in a future DLC Fighters Pass.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
