Nintendo has provided some of the details about the latest online tournament for its crossover brawler Super Smash Bros. Ultimate via the game’s official Twitter page.

Beginning this Friday, October 2, 2020, the online tournament will last for three days and will be open only to “fluffy and light” Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters who fit into the lightweight class. Among others, this will include Zero Suit Samus, Kirby, Pichu, Mewtwo, and Captain Olimar from the Pikmin series. The more matches a player wins, the better the spirit rewards earned. So far, no additional details have been provided about the competition.

The lightweight Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament follows hot on the heels of the NintendoVS Challenge Cup tournament, which took place on September 26, 2020, and lasted for three hours. That tournament was open to all players, who duked it out in 1v1 matches for a shot at some My Nintendo Gold Points. The 20 winners for that competition have not yet been announced, but the player who accumulated the highest Tourney Score will come away with 10,000 Points, which amounts to $100 in eShop credit.

While online tournaments for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have been occurring regularly throughout the year, competitions scheduled to take place in person haven’t fared as well, due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic. One such casualty was the Big House Super Smash Bros. tournament, which is usually held every October in Detroit, Michigan, but was canceled over concerns about the safety of in-person gatherings.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now on Nintendo Switch.
