Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has maybe the largest roster of cross-franchise playable characters in games right now. There are 87 fighters in the game, with two more still coming as part of the Fighters Pass Vol 2. The latest characters to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are Pyra and Mythra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and so far they've already carved out a high place within the competitive meta. But there are always new characters fans want to see in the game, and it turns out that Hades creative director Greg Kasavin wouldn't mind seeing Zagreus get a spot.

Hades is an indie rogue-like action game that tells the story of Zagreus as he tries to escape from the underworld. Players take control of Zagreus to fight enemies in a procedurally generated maze of rooms, and he has an arsenal of different weapons at his disposal. Many gamers feel that Hades has transformed the rogue-like genre with its exceptional storytelling, and Zagreus has become a pretty recognizable game character. However, there are characters that have been waiting much longer than Zagreus to get into a Super Smash Bros. game, and Kasavin is well aware of that fact.

In an interview with TheGamer, Kasavin discusses Hades' success but also reveals some of his feelings about Zagreus as a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character. He says "[o]n a personal level, I think that would be amazing. Smash does such a great job of adapting characters so faithfully, sometimes even more faithfully from the games where those characters come from." Kasavin goes on to say that he is a big fighting game fan and he's confident that Nintendo could do Zagreus justice, but he also realizes that when it comes to new Smash characters, "I'm sure they have a very long list!"

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate does have a long list, but that list will be different depending on who is asked. There are several rumors about the next two Smash DLC characters, with some leading theories saying Crash Bandicoot or one of the many hunters from the Monster Hunter games will be next. There's also an abundance of other opinions with supposed evidence to back them up, including Rayman from the Rayman games, Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, and Doomguy from the Doom series.

If Zagreus was confirmed to be the next character in the game, there would still be much fan speculation as to his moveset. There's already an ongoing debate in the Smash community concerning the abundance of sword characters in the game, and Zagreus' first weapon is a sword. However, making a case for Zagreus in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn't so farfetched, as his multiple weapons are similar to Byleth's kit and his Olympian boons could behave similar to Shulk's Monado Arts.

The final say on the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character is always up to Nintendo and game director Masahiro Sakurai, and Sakurai never wants to spoil the surprise. The most recent additions to the game have debunked several leaker theories, so there's really no telling who will be next.
