A modder of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate adds in a fan-favorite Legend of Zelda villain as a playable character to its already incredibly large roster of characters. Many would be hard-pressed to find a game that has a roster as varied as the one in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, having representatives from across gaming history. It's also got a huge modding community, which adds new characters into the game. This includes Nintendo's own The Legend of Zelda franchise, with modders adding Tetra and fan favorite villain Ghirahim.
While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has featured a number of Zelda characters, many of them are an iteration of Link, Princess Zelda, or Ganondorf. While the incarnations of these characters have varied game to game, the Zelda franchise hasn't had a new playable character in Smash since Melee. It's then no surprise to see modders add in new Zelda fighters, like Ghirahim, the breakout antagonist of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
Ghirahim's popularity stems from his unique appearance and sword skills, even to the extent of overshadowing the true villain of Skyward Sword. This playable mod was created by Shinoda11 and has him over Sephiroth, the closest analog to his abilities from his home game. As a result, this mod will have him play exactly like the Final Fantasy 7 representative. This mod goes the extra mile of adding a number of details that make him an authentic addition and not just a model swap, such as voice clips from Hyrule Warriors.
The mod even has an extra costume in its final slot, showcasing Ghirahim's demon lord form from his final boss fight. Sadly the mod doesn't have a unique transformation whenever Sephiroth's One-Winged angel mods activates, meaning there's no way to tell currently when his abilities have powered-up. A commenter on the GameBanana page offered a suggestion that had Ghirahim either transform into his Demon Lord form, or lose his cape, much like his first boss fight in Skyward Sword.
The modding community for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is still quite active, even after the game's full-time development has ceased. This includes not only model swap mods, but also full overhaul mods that change up a character's move set. There might be a future mod that fully changes up Sephiroth's move set to make it more reflective of Ghirahim's abilities.
