Much debate has gone into who the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character will be. While it wasn't shown during the latest Nintendo Direct, fans now have a date for when the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character will be revealed.

Since its release in 2018, Nintendo has thrived off the inclusion of new fighters to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Through its two Fighters Passes, Ultimate has received 10 new characters, many of which coming from non-Nintendo exclusive franchises, like Steve from Minecraft and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7. It has been a few months since the game received its last character, Kazuya from the Tekken series, and in that time, many rumors have spread hoping for one perfect character to take the last spot. Whether it's Waluigi as the final Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter, Crash Bandicoot, or some other unexpected addition, the decision will likely not satisfy everyone.

During the latest Nintendo Direct, the reveal date for the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character was announced. The last character will be announced during "The Final Mr. Sakurai Presents for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate," on October 5 at 7:00 am PT and 10:00am ET. Presenter Yoshiaki Koizumi spoke briefly about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, saying that this event on October 5 will be the final event related to the game. Nintendo has added a lot of DLC fighters to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and now players have a date of when the final addition will be made.

final direct announcement

It is both an encouraging and discouraging announcement, with this being the final Smash Ultimate event. Beyond it being the end of Smash Ultimate's DLC announcements, this is also potentially the last time Masahiro Sakurai delivers Smash Bros. information. Creating the series over 20 years ago, and being extremely involved in every sequel, some might argue there is no Smash Bros. without Sakurai. It is no surprise then, the excitement and speculation now resting on this event.

With this event, it will perhaps be time to looking to the future of the Smash Bros. franchise. Ultimate was marketed as the greatest, most complete version of Smash Bros., and if this ends up being Sakurai's final Smash Bros. game, it may very well also be the final Smash Bros. title. In the past, there has only been one Smash Bros. game per Nintendo console, so fans will likely have to wait until Nintendo's next console generation at least. For the time being, fans can enjoy these final days until the end of Ultimate.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on the Nintendo Switch.
