Super Smash Bros. Ultimate seems to be teasing a new character in an interesting way. On the official Nintendo website, all compatible Amiibos are listed in alphabetical order, but there is a blank space on the page between Toon Link and Sonic. This blank space says only "Nintendo Game" and "Coming Soon."

This means that a new character will be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate whose name fits alphabetically between those two characters. That still leaves a ton of options as there are a lot of Nintendo characters who could fit those shoes, but there are some things to help narrow it down.

The most compelling idea is that the mystery character is someone from ARMS. It has already been confirmed that an ARMS character would be revealed in June, so the timing of that makes a lot of sense. That said, there are only two characters in ARMS whose names could fit the bill, and one of them is already in the game.

Spring Man and Springtron are the only two possibilities from ARMS assuming the blank space is in the proper location. As most know, Spring Man is already in the game in the form of an assist trophy, although it is possible that he could receive an upgrade and become a full playable character. Springtron is a possibility also, but that seems less likely given his status in ARMS. Of course, it is also possible that this character is not the ARMS fighter that fans are expecting but someone completely different.

A brief search through Nintendo's vast library of characters doesn't bring anyone particularly believable to mind. Tingle from The Legend of Zelda, Tiny Kong, and Tiki Kong from Donkey Kong, Toad from Mario, and Tom Nook from Animal Crossing are all potential options, but none of them are particularly convincing choices. Non-Nintendo characters also have to be considered however, with one popular possibility being Spyro, who has been highly requested and fits in the blank space.

It is also possible that this is simply an error caused by errant website formatting or a mistake on the part of someone who manages the Amiibo page, but only time will tell. The fact that the blank space says "Coming Soon" seems to indicate that this was no accident, but even so, the Amiibo page is a strange place to hint at an upcoming character.
