Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has the largest roster in series history, bringing back all the fighters from previous games and adding some new ones to the mix as well. However, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster is set to grow even bigger in the future, as Nintendo plans to add more DLC fighters to the game.

So far, two Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighters have been added to the roster in the form of Piranha Plant and Persona 5's Joker. Nintendo has yet to officially announce any of the other DLC fighters that are planned for the ambitious crossover fighting game, but five characters have been rumored so far.

Here are all the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate rumored DLC fighters. Please keep in mind that none of these characters have been confirmed by Nintendo, and it's quite possible that none of them will actually end up in the game.

5 1. Erdrick (Dragon Quest)

Erdrick from Dragon Quest has long been rumored to be the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate after Joker. Multiple "leakers" have claimed the Dragon Quest hero is on his way for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and game supervisor Kumazaki Shinya even added fuel to the fire by posting an image of the franchise's iconic shield.

It's worth pointing out that the leakers claimed Erdrick's addition to Dragon Quest 11 would be partly done to promote the Dragon Quest 11 Switch port, which hadn't been announced at the time. Now that we know Dragon Quest 11 S is coming to the Switch this year, it gives those past leaks a bit more credibility than they had originally.

4 2. Ryu Hayabusa (Ninja Gaiden)

Ryu Hayabusa started his video game career with Ninja Gaiden on the NES, and he has appeared on multiple Nintendo consoles since then. So even though Ryu is known for being in violent video games, his long history with Nintendo makes it easier to believe the leak that he will be a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter. It's also worth pointing out that Nintendo has a strong relationship with Ninja Gaiden developer Team Ninja, making Ryu one of the more likely third-party DLC fighters.

3 3. Steve (Minecraft)

Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo and Microsoft have developed a much closer relationship. This relationship has seen Xbox Live come to the Switch for select games, not to mention Nintendo-themed DLC for the Microsoft-owned Minecraft. This combined with Minecraft's massive worldwide popularity means it's not totally impossible to see Steve come to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC fighter. Leaks have also claimed that Steve will have a Master Chief costume if he comes to the game, though fans should keep their expectations in check.

2 4. DOOM Guy (Doom)

DOOM Guy is one of the more bizarre Super Smash Bros. Ultimate rumored DLC characters, and also one of the least likely. The Doom franchise is known for its extreme level of violence that would be out of place in Super Smash Bros., but then again, characters from M-rated franchises are already in the game, like Solid Snake and Bayonetta. Furthermore, Nintendo and Bethesda appear to have forged a strong relationship, with Bethesda regularly porting its games (including the Doom reboot) to the Switch. DOOM Guy's importance to gaming history may also help his case when it comes to being added to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster as DLC, though it's easy to see how Nintendo may pass on him due to his ultra-violent past.

1 5. Rayman

rumor next super smash bros. ultimate dlc character revealed

Rayman is one of the more recent DLC fighters rumored for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. A texture of Ubisoft's platforming character was recently discovered on the Battlefield stage, with it looking like he is encased in ice. This discovery has fueled wild speculation that Rayman is on deck to join the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate playable fighters, but the fact that he has been trapped in this ice since launch (as opposed to added in a recent update) makes this unlikely to be a tease, and more likely to be just a weird coincidence. Even so, Rayman already exists in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Spirit, so seeing him come to the roster of playable fighters isn't such a huge stretch.

Again, we must stress that none of these characters have been confirmed by Nintendo. These characters are merely rumored for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and it's possible that the actual DLC lineup will look quite different. Super Smash Bros. fans will just have to wait and see who Nintendo has in store for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in the future.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
