Kicking off Nintendo's E3 2021 Direct is what's become the company's most reliable featured game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As is now expected of any major Nintendo event anymore, a new trailer for an upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character was shared. The latest Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character is none other than the Tekken franchise's biggest character, Kazuya.

Alongside the announcement trailer for Kazuya being Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's next DLC character, a trailer was also shared showing off his moveset. Tekken players will be excited to hear that Nintendo has done its best to make sure Kazuya's Tekken moves and abilities carry over to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai even went as far as shouting "This feels like Tekken!" after the gameplay trailer ended.

The cinematic introduction trailer was capped off with a fun nod to Tekken's history. In the very first Tekken, Kazuya throws his father, Heihachi, off a cliff after defeating him. It's a story beat referencing Heihachi throwing Kazuya off a cliff as a child as a test of his son's strength. The imagery of someone throwing another person off a cliff has since been used several times throughout the Tekken series. It returns in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it seems, with Kazuya throwing his opponents off a cliff in dramatic fashion.

Since Nintendo only has so much time, it only shared a brief look at Kazuya's gameplay. For Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans who want a deeper look at Kazuya, a reveal event was announced for June 28 at 7:00 am PT/10:00 am ET. Expect a typical Sakurai in-depth showcase for the character, as well as additional info for the DLC release.

According to Nintendo, Kazuya Mishima will be joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster soon, but an official release date was not announced. Those hoping for a shadow drop will have to wait for the Mr. Sakurai Presents Kazuya broadcast on June 28.

Kazuya is the latest addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighters Pass Vol. 2 DLC. The Fighters Pass features six different characters, of which Kazuya will be the fifth. The first four include Min Min from the ARMS fighting game on Switch, Minecraft's Steve and Alex, Final Fantasy 7's Sephiroth, and Pyra/Mythra of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Unfortunately, after Kazuya's release, only one more character will be left for Nintendo to reveal.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now on Nintendo Switch.
