2020 has been a rough year for Nintendo fans anticipating future DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. While the platform fighting game had an incredibly strong 2019 with the release of DLC characters such as Persona 5's Joker, Dragon Quest's Hero, Banjo and Kazooie, and Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard, 2020 has  been much slower when it comes to new character releases. Thankfully, we now know when we will see the second character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Fighters Pass 2 revealed, and it is very soon.

Hype surrounding Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been rather low throughout the course of 2020, with many of the game's competitive events being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Nintendo unable to make consistent announcements regarding new characters due to work-from-home development proving rather difficult. All of this makes Nintendo announcing that the next DLC fighter for the game will be revealed tomorrow, October 1, 2020, a pleasant surprise. Better yet is that, as of the time of writing this, no majorly substantial leaks have spoiled who the upcoming character could be.

Nintendo has announced that the upcoming character will be revealed at 7am PT on October 1 through a 3-minute trailer followed by a brief presentation from Super Smash Bros. series creator Masahiro Sakurai. Sakurai's presentation will likely be to demonstrate the character's move-set, implying that the character could even be ready for release tomorrow, especially since Thursday is the day that the Nintendo eShop updates.

While there is very little to go off for clues as to who the next character joining the game may be, there have been a few somewhat unsubstantiated rumors as to who could be joining Nintendo's beloved crossover fighting game. Fans have long suspected that publisher Capcom may have another character joining the game, as the only one of the publisher's characters introduced in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was Street Fighter's Ken, who served as an echo fighter of Ryu. If a Capcom character were to join, it would likely be a character from Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry's Dante, or Ace Attorney's Phoenix Wright.

Another character who has recently had some implications for joining the Smash Bros. roster is No More Heroes' Travis Touchdown. During an interview with Nintendo magazine Switch Player, Goichi "Suda51" Suda was asked if the character would be joining Super Smash Bros., to which Suda51 responded "That's gonna be a big 'No comment' from me!" However, this comment should likely be taken with a grain of salt, as Suda51 is infamously known for trolling his fans every chance he gets. Other characters who have recently be rumored are the likes of Overwatch's Tracer, Rayman, and, as always, Super Mario RPG's Geno.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
