Update 6/13/2019: Erdrick from Dragon Quest has now been confirmed for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC roster, but Nintendo also announced Banjo-Kazooie as well. It's hard to say what this means for the leaked Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighters. Original story follows.

Based on the DLC characters revealed so far for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, it's clear that Nintendo is going with some surprising choices for the game's post-launch roster. And a new leak suggests that the other upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC characters will be just as bizarre and unexpected.

The new leak originates from a Japanese website called 5Channel that supposedly reveals the DLC fighters that will follow the Piranha Plant and Persona 5's Joker. According to the leak, the next DLC character will be Erdrick from the Dragon Quest franchise to promote Dragon Quest 11 S for the Switch. He will be followed by Ryu Hayabusa of Ninja Gaiden fame, who will be added in celebration of an unannounced Ninja Gaiden game that is apparently releasing for the franchise's 30th anniversary.

If the leak is to be believed, the final two DLC fighters for the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster will be Steve from Minecraft and DOOM Guy. While some may be disappointed by Minecraft Steve's apparent addition to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, his inclusion is a little more exciting if the leak's assertion that Halo's Master Chief will be one of his alternate costumes.

In summation, here are the DLC fighters rumored for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that the leak claims are coming to the game after Piranha Plant and Joker:

super smash bros nintendo switch minecraft steve
  • Erdrick from Dragon Quest
  • Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden
  • Steve from Minecraft (with Master Chief alternate costume)
  • DOOM Guy from Doom

So now the question is, should this leak be believed? We recommend Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players take this information with a massive grain of salt, but the picks actually make some bit of sense. Ryu Hayabusa and the Ninja Gaiden franchise are closely tied to the NES, and Steve from Minecraft has easily become one of gaming's most recognizable characters. Plus, Microsoft's positive relationship with Nintendo makes the Master Chief alternate costume for Steve within the realm of possibility as well.

Not to mention there is a reason for all of these DLC characters to be added Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, if the leaked information is to be believed. For example, Erdrick is there to promote Dragon Quest 11 on the Switch, Ryu's addition is for the franchise's 30th anniversary and a new game that's supposedly in development, and Steve is apparently being added because of Minecraft Dungeons. Finally, DOOM Guy is another one of gaming's most iconic characters, and there happens to be a new Doom game coming out for the Nintendo Switch this year called Doom Eternal.

At this point, it's hard to say either way if these "leaked" DLC fighters are truly in the works for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or not. At the end of the day, fans will just have for Nintendo to reveal the rest of the DLC fighters to be sure.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
