While the most recent Nintendo Direct may have left fans a bit disappointed, it seems that there may be another coming soon. While fans speculate on the subject of this event, many believe that the announcement may have something to do with the next Super Smash Bros Ultimate fighter.

Since the 35th anniversary of Mario on the horizon, some fans believe that the Nintendo Direct may be giving a majority of the time of celebrating the iconic mustachioed plumber. However, there are some theories that lead fans of the franchise that the event may actually be centered on Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

One of the main reasons that fans believe that this is the case is due to the game's event schedule. Smash players have been able to expect weekly events from Nintendo, whether it be a weekly tournament or a special Spirit Event. However, there has been no announcement for an event this week, and the last time that an event was announced late was the same time that Nintendo surprised players with the unexpected Small Battlefield stage patch. Since this is the precedent that Nintendo has set, many believe that something new is again coming for the game.

However, this isn't the only reason that fans believe the upcoming Nintendo Direct will be focused on the fighting game. Recently, a new discovery called Amiibo Theory has been popularized in the community. According to this theory, Nintendo will make new DLC fighters available before or after the Amiibo for previous additional characters for Smash Ultimate.

Since the Amiibos for Joker and Hero will be released at the beginning of next month, it would make sense that the time for the next fighter to be announced would be coming soon. While Nintendo has not confirmed that the Nintendo Direct will be occurring soon or the contents of the announcement, it would make sense for a Smash Ultimate centered event to be coming soon, even if it does not reveal the next fighter.

Many fans of the game are theorizing who the next DLC fighter may be. There is currently a strong case that one of the fighters in this pack will be Dante from Devil May Cry, and polls continue to show that many fans would love to see Crash Bandicoot or Master Chief from Halo taking to the stage. Only time will tell which character receives the Smash invite next.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
