Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans have been waiting for months to learn the identity of the mysterious DLC 5 character. The wait will finally be over come January 16, as game director Masahiro Sakurai will be presenting a 35 minute presentation detailing everything fans need to know about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5. In the meantime, there have been a number of supposed leaks about who the character is, but apparently those leaks may be a bit off-base.

Insider Zippo has said that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 is a Nintendo-related character, but not necessarily a character that is outright owned by Nintendo. It's also been suggested that the identity of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 is such a well-guarded secret that it would be "dangerous" to outright leak it.

The character being Nintendo-related seems to throw a wrench in the theory that it will be Dante from Devil May Cry. Until now, Dante has been one of the prevailing theories as the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character, especially after a Capcom producer teased big news for DMC fans coming on January 16. However, Dante isn't a character that's really associated with Nintendo, with the first three Devil May Cry games just recently coming to the Nintendo Switch.

There are a couple of other characters that are being theorized by fans online, with one being Phoenix Wright. The Ace Attorney franchise is from Capcom and has appeared on other platforms, but it's largely associated with Nintendo handhelds, particularly the Nintendo DS and 3DS. Considering this, Phoenix Wright seems to fit the bill as a Nintendo-related character who could very well be the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 combatant.

Another theory we've seen online is that the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 is Travis Touchdown. For the uninitiated, Travis Touchdown is the main character of the No More Heroes series, which originated on the Wii. No More Heroes 3 is coming as a Switch-exclusive game later this year, so adding Touchdown to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be a great way to promote it.

It's also possible that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 is none of the characters listed here, and is instead someone completely different. Luckily we don't have to wait too much longer to find out, as the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character will be revealed on Thursday, January 16 at 6:00am PT.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
