After weeks of rumors and speculation, Nintendo finally announced the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 character. Despite rumors that Dante from Devil May Cry or Ryu from Ninja Gaiden would be DLC 5, it's been confirmed that the new character is yet another one from Fire Emblem. It's been announced by game director Masahiro Sakurai that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC 5 is none other than Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.

The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Byleth DLC will be available beginning January 28 as part of the Fighters Pass or for individual purchase at $5.99. Byleth will have a special counter-move, male and female variants, and access to the Heroes Relics so that he's not just another Fire Emblem swordfighter. This should help Byleth stand out from most of the other Fire Emblem characters that are already in the game.

Even though Byleth will be quite a bit different than other Fire Emblem characters, there will no doubt be some fans who are disappointed by this reveal. After all, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate already has seven Fire Emblem characters on the roster, so it seems like the spot would have been better served going to a character from a different franchise.

For those who may be disappointed by the reveal of Byleth as the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC character, the bright side is that he is not the last DLC character coming to the game. It was announced some time ago that Nintendo was going to extend beyond the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass to release even more DLC characters for the game, though details on them remain scarce at the time of this writing.

It's possible some of the rumored Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC characters will be coming to the game next. In the past, Crash Bandicoot has been rumored, along with Waluigi, Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Doomguy, and more. Based on who has been added to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC roster so far, the next character could really be just about anyone, even characters from rival companies.

It took Nintendo quite a long time to reveal the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Byleth DLC, though, so fans shouldn't expect to see the next character for quite some time.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
