New video game releases getting Day One patches has now become the norm for the industry, and insofar as the forthcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is concerned, the fighting game will be no exception. Now, in order to prepare fans for what to expect out of SSBU's Day One patch, director Masahiro Sakurai has decided to provide players with some details regarding the downloadable file's contents.

In a recent interview, Sakurai stated that those who purchased the digital version of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate shouldn't have to worry when it comes to applying the game's Day One patch, but fans getting physical copies ought to apply the update before playing. The SSBU director explained that the game's first patch "prevent[s] your replays from going off-track", and he went on to say, "If you save your replays as videos, you can keep them forever, but note that they take up a lot of space!"

The details given by Sakurai-san should be seen by many Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fans as a helpful tip, but it's unfortunate that the director didn't also share exactly how large the fighting game's Day One patch will be. While the first update's size likely won't be massive, with the game file for SSBU already being around 13 GB, Nintendo Switch fans will need to be aware of how much free storage space on the system is available for the title. Of course, those who wish to avoid having their console's hard drive becoming full can always use Micro SD cards to supplement its memory.

Taking all of this into consideration, it won't be too much longer before fans find out just how big Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Day One patch will be, as the fighting game is set to release in just a little more than a week from now. After that, there's no doubt that the majority of the Smash community will have their eyes peeled for announcements related to the title's DLC characters.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is set to release on December 7, 2018 for Nintendo Switch.
