Rumors and speculation have begun to run wild around who would be the next fighter to join Nintendo's wildly popular fighting game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Recent theories have centered around characters like Dante from Devil May Cry, as well as Sora from Kingdom Hearts based on some very interesting rumors and potential clues. Thankfully, the day fans had been waiting for finally took place earlier today as Mr. Sakurai introduced the fifth and final DLC fighter for the first Fighter Pass.

Surprisingly, the trend of adding third party guest characters to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate came to crashing down as Sakurai showed off Byleth, a character from the recently release Switch title, Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The move clearly surprised fans considering the game already has a sizable amount of Fire Emblem characters, many of which who use swords as their weapon of choice. The base roster comes with seven available Fire Emblem characters or eight due to Corrin having male and female options similar to Byleth.

Nintendo was clearly hoping to get around this fact by giving Byleth four weapons to work with based on certain abilities and directional attacks. Known as the Heroes Relics, players start with the whip-like Sword of the Creator, the Areadbhar lance, heavy ax Aymr, and the bow known as Failnaught. Clearly, Nintendo believed introducing these various weapons would be enough to pacify fans, though based on social media reactions, that doesn't appear to be the case.

While rumors of other third party characters may have caused players to get hyped and excited about something that was never outright promised, the introduction of Byleth has left many fans disappointed and upset.

Some people simply like to watch the world burn.

Others are simply excited that the true hero of Three Houses has finally made it into Smash.

While the update didn't include any Devil May Cry reveals like many thought, there are some new Mii Fighter outfits for popular third part characters like Altair from Assassin's Creed, Mega Man X, Mega Man.exe, Rabbids, and a Cuphead skin that basically turns the Mii into the character.

Besides new Mii Fighter outfits, Sakurai also revealed a second Fighter Pass that is going to have six additional DLC characters. The roster is already set for this FIghters Pass Vol. 2, though Sakurai wasn't able to share any additional information on who the next six characters are. Thankfully, this reveal means that highly requested fighters like Waluigi, Dante, Geno, and the others still have another shot at making the cut.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
