Back at E3 2019, Nintendo shocked the world with the announcement that Banjo-Kazooie would be joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. After months of rumors and speculation, it's now been confirmed exactly when Banjo-Kazooie will be available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and as it turns out, fans don't have to wait long at all.

During the September 4 Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo confirmed that Banjo-Kazooie will be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later today. When the Nintendo Direct wraps up, there will be a presentation by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai where he will explain how the bird and bear duo play, which will be followed by the two going live in the game.

The Banjo-Kazooie release confirmation was certainly one of the more exciting announcements from today's Nintendo Direct, but it wasn't the only Super Smash Bros. reveal. It was also confirmed that SNK character Terry Bogard would be the fourth Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter, as was previously leaked and rumored.

It was also announced by Nintendo that even more DLC fighters will be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate after the five Fighter Pass characters are fulfilled. More information on those fighters will come at a later date, but it opens the door to the possibility that previously leaked DLC fighters who have yet to be announced could very well make it to the ambitious crossover fighting game before it's all said and done.

For those who haven't been keeping up with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC leaks and rumors, past rumors have claimed that Steve from Minecraft, Ryu from Ninja Gaiden, and Doom Guy will join the roster. However, nothing official about any of those characters has actually materialized.

While we can't say for certain that Steve, Ryu, or Doom Guy will come to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, one that seems like a distinct possibility is Doom Guy. After all, Bethesda and Nintendo have a close relationship, with Bethesda's Pete Hines even appearing during the Nintendo Direct to announce a Doom 64 Switch port. But fans should wait for an official announcement before getting too excited.

In the meantime, Banjo-Kazooie will be available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later today.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
