Super Smash Bros. Ultimate pro Elliot "Ally" Carroza-Oyarce is known as one of the best Solid Snake players in the world. However, the 28 year old Ally has announced that he will be retiring from playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate professionally, having admitted to dating another professional Super Smash Bros. player, Zack "CaptainZack" Lauth, who was reportedly 16 at the time of the relationship.

Ally was allegedly 27 at the time of his relationship with Zack, which both parties initially denied ever happened. However, on June 29, Zack took to Twitter to confirm that the allegations were true, and that there had in fact been a romantic relationship between himself and Ally.

Ally participated in the CEO fighting game tournament in Florida before releasing his statement on Twitter on July 3. It was then that Ally confirmed that he "dated Zack" and announced that he would be retiring from playing Super Smash Bros. competitively. Ally stated that he "didn't do [Zack] any wrongs", but that their relationship was a "stupid mistake regardless." Ally then apologized for not coming clean about his relationship with Zack earlier, saying that he "was really scared."

So far, the reaction from the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community has been somewhat mixed. There have been talks about banning Ally from participating in future tournaments, just in case he decides to come out of retirement. Some on Twitter have defended Ally by pointing out the age of consent in Canada (where Ally is from) is 16. Others have countered that argument with the fact that the age of consent in Louisiana (where Zack is from) is 17, which would potentially make sexual activity in their relationship statutory rape, and that there was still an age gap between the two of over 10 years.

In the aftermath of this situation, Ally has decided to stay off Twitter as well, and it's unclear if he will ever return to social media. Zack briefly closed his own Twitter account, but has since reactivated it, and has not given any indication that he will also stop playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Zack mains Bayonetta and is considered one of the top Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players in the world. He reached the Grand Finals for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U at Evo 2018 and participated in an infamous match against Bharat "Lima" Chintapall where they trolled the crowd and refused to fight each other, seemingly in response to being booed for being Bayonetta mains.
