Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a culmination of the company's history, featuring many heavy hitting franchises throughout its tenure in the gaming industry. This includes one of its longest-running and popular franchises, The Legend of Zelda, in various iterations. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate features many iterations of the Zelda franchise, such as Link being represented in his Breath of the Wild outfit and moveset, Zelda herself being her incarnation from A Link Between Worlds, or the big bad of the franchise Ganondorf in his iconic Ocarina of Time outfit.

While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate does feature all previously playable characters from the franchise, a new Zelda character hasn't been added to the roster since Super Smash Bros. Brawl with Toon Link. If fans discount that version of Link, then the last Zelda character added to the game would be Princess Zelda and Ganondorf back in Super Smash Bros. Melee. Considering this, it's no surprise then that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has seen plenty of mods to add various Zelda characters. One of these fanmade mods adds in a fan-favorite character from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

This mod was created by Smash Alternate on GameBanana, which gives Toon Link a skin that turns him into the spunky Pirate Captain Tetra. Tetra is a highly requested character from the Zelda series to join the roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, whether it be based on her royal persona as Zelda or her pirate captain appearance. This mod in particular uses the model of Tetra's appearance in Hyrule Warriors, with various items that also give her various pirate themed items to replace Toon Link's.

This includes replacing Toon Link's Master Sword with a pirate's cutlass, the boomerang with a Pirate Ship's steering wheel, and even the hookshot has been modified to utilize an anchor instead. Other aesthetic changes include all of Toon Link's voice clips being replaced with Tetra's clips from Hyrule Warriors or attack effects that would be fitting for Tetra's character. The mod has been even put in the same costume slot as the one that Tetra's spirit uses in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Spirit Mode, which is demonstrated in the video that accompanied the mod.

The overall reception to this alternate Super Smash Bros. Ultimate skin has been positive, with many appreciating all the little details that would make Tetra a playable character in the game, and not just a simple model swap. Mods like this show the work that fans have for certain characters, giving them a spot in a game like Super Smash Bros. that celebrates the various corners of Nintendo's history.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
