In 2011, a group of friends decided to ride Splash Mountain together before they had even entered the park. It had recently become a meme to somehow smuggle things such as games of Monopoly or playing cards into the ride, and pose as if the riders are playing amongst themselves just in time for the on-ride photo. These four friends had seen these images and had decided to try to make their own photo that looked like they were playing Super Smash Bros. Melee on Splash Mountain. Now, 11 years later, one of the people in the famous photo has shared how the picture was made.

Sammy G is a Disney fanatic who has a TikTok dedicated to her adventures in Disneyland. In one of her videos, she mentions how she used to think that she would never date someone who loved Disney as much as her. She then reveals that she's actually dating one of the guys from the Super Smash Bros. Splash Mountain image, and the comments on the video have been filled with questions as to how the photo was made.

Sammy's boyfriend, the man in the third seat in the original image, has been explaining how the image was made in further videos. The person in the second seat had a backpack with him as they went to the park that day, and due to how Disney parks lacked metal detectors in 2011, all the group needed to say was that the guy came from college and just happened to have a GameCube with him to be let through.

In a different video, the boyfriend also reveals that the TV isn't real. It was made with a tri-fold board with a screenshot of Super Smash Bros. Melee printed on it. He goes at lengths to specify that the group he was part of took great care in the details so the picture looked great, going so far as to include a fake TV logo on the board and creating a special orange sticker to make the GameCube appear as if it was on. Sammy's boyfriend wore a big parka to the park and hid the board up his shirt until it was time to ride Splash Mountain.

In the second TikTok upload, he states "I definitely don't think that would fly nowadays, so we got really lucky." He has also said he still owns the GameCube and props, and has said that he and Sammy can easily make a video with the props to further debunk the idea that the image is fake.

Even though the picture doesn't feature a real TV and uses a screenshot, the effort that Sammy's boyfriend and his friends went through helps the image stand out. The act was rather impressive back then, and still is to this day, and the infamy is most definitely deserved considering all the hard work it took to make it happen.
