Super Smash Bros. has proven to be one of the most successful and popular games to hit the Wii U since the troubled console's launch nearly three years ago. The hybrid party and fighting game series has persisted thanks to the franchise's high quality and near endless replayability, and the latest iteration is no different.

The 3DS and Wii U versions of Super Smash Bros. has potential to have an even longer life than its predecessors, thanks to post-launch DLC support, a first for the series, in the form of new characters. Nintendo is even letting fans choose future Super Smash Bros. characters, with the first fan requested character coming to Super Smash Bros. being Lucas, who will be available June 15th.

As for future DLC characters, the sky's the limit. With Nintendo's E3 digital event right around the corner, many are expecting new DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. to be announced along with new games. However, as is the case with a good portion of planned E3 surprises, it appears as though Nintendo's surprise new Super Smash Bros. characters have been leaked ahead of time, via two trailers.

One of the leaked trailers features a new guest character making his Super Smash Bros. debut, and it's one of the most recognizable fighting game stars of all time. Ryu, famous for Capcom's Street Fighter franchise and for his iconic hadouken move, is coming to Smash. Judging by the trailer, it appears as though Ryu's look will be based off his appearance from Street Fighter 4, and that his signature moves will be retained for his debut in Super Smash Bros. The second fighter leaked ahead of E3 is Roy. Unlike Ryu, Roy of Fire Emblem fame is no stranger to the harrowing battlegrounds of Super Smash Bros., having previously appeared in both Melee on the GameCube and Brawl on the Wii. For the most part, Roy seems relatively untouched from his previous iterations. The Roy Super Smash Bros. trailer can be viewed right here:

There isn't a release date or even a release window for these new fighters just yet, but these trailers were data mined from the most recent Super Smash Bros. update, and seem to confirm the previous reports claiming Roy and Ryu as DLC characters. It's possible that they will be available along with Lucas on June 15th, as part of a surprise announcement from Masahiro Sakurai during the planned Super Smash Bros. E3 presentation that he's hosting.

In the meantime, other information was pulled from the same data mining efforts. It looks as though that the Dreamland stage from the Nintendo 64 version of Super Smash Bros. is making a comeback, along with Ryu's Stage from Street Fighter 2. Furthermore, an Inkling Girl Trophy is reportedly being added to the game as well, to go along with the Inkling Mii Splatoon costumes that have been added to the game.

Nintendo is likely disappointed at the leaks, as the surprise fighters were probably set to be a major E3 surprise for the company. Considering the fact that the Wii U Legend of Zelda has been delayed to 2016 and won't be at E3, Nintendo's E3 is not quite as exciting as it once was, and the surprise Smash fighters would've certainly helped to bolster the company's E3 lineup.

Super Smash Bros. is out now for both 3DS and Wii U.
