Featuring the most expansive roster in franchise history, Super Smash Bros Ultimate combines every character from previous games and combines them with a handful of new and requested fighters like Ridley and Simon Belmont. However, the game doesn't make everyone available right off the bat, forcing players to unlock all but the original 6 characters through various ways. While many can be unlocked naturally over time, there are specific ways to unlock certain characters. Follow this guide to unlock the Kremling ruler, King K. Rool.

Surprisingly, unlocking the traditional Donkey Kong Country antagonist doesn't involve the big ape at all. Unlike some other fighters, King K. Rool doesn't take a lot of effort to unlock as he can be obtained after wrapping up Super Smash Bros Ultimate's Classic mode under certain conditions. Thankfully, this can be done right away as players simply need to select Link from the character selection screen and pick any difficulty level. Battle through the 8 predetermined battles and after taking down Ganon for the first time, players can go head-to-head with K. Rool for a chance to unlock him.

Alternatively, players can also come across him within the game's single player story campaign, World of Light. For those who haven't done the above method, he can be encountered in an area of the map called Mysterious Dimension near the spirit of Shantae's antagonist, Risky Boots. However, World of Light features a massive and sprawling map, so this method will definitely take much longer than simply running through Classic mode with Link.

With 74 characters to unlock, most players have a long task ahead of them to obtain the entire roster. While some characters like King K. Rool have specific unlock requirements, players can continue to unlock opponents by playing the game's VS mode. Keep in mind that this method also has a 10-minute cooldown timer, though players have discovered that exiting and restarting the game seems to remove the time limit completely until the next character unlock.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is out now exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
