The Super Smash Bros. franchise has come a long way since its release on the Nintendo 64. New installments of Super Smash Bros. have been released on nearly every major Nintendo system to launch after the N64. In many ways, Super Smash Bros. likely would not exist today without the work of Masahiro Sakurai, who is an avid lover of video games.

For several years, Masahiro Sakurai has been the heart and soul of Super Smash Bros. For every game in the series, Sakurai has served as director and has been at the forefront of every major decision made in terms of the franchise as a whole. Now, after all of the hard work he has put in to make the series what it is today, Sakurai reveals the purchase of a brand new, next-gen system.

Over on Twitter, Sakurai reveals an image of an Xbox Series X he recently purchased. Some fans may find it odd that Sakurai chose to purchase a Western game console, but what many might not know is that Sakurai is an avid lover of video games in general. Back in 2019, it was revealed that Sakurai had played over 240 games on PS4 and has a substantial collection of game consoles within his place of residence.

What's fairly interesting is that Sakurai purchased an Xbox Series X almost a year after purchasing a PS5. It's possible that due to the record-breaking demand of the Xbox Series X, Sakurai was simply unable to purchase one. Although, it's more likely that given how much time and effort has been put into releasing all of the additional DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, only now is Sakurai able to enjoy games in his spare time.

In any case, it's nice to see Sakurai being able to enjoy himself after all of the hard work that was put into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Following the release of Sora in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, many in the gaming community praised Sakurai for his diligent work on the series. Especially considering the number of logistical hurdles the studio likely had to overcome just to add Sora to the roster.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Super Smash Bros. moving forward. Given that the second fighters pass will be the last one released for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, many fans have already begun to consider the prospect of a new series installment. While Sakurai is unsure of whether Super Smash Bros. will continue, many are still appreciative of the content that has been released so far.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
